STAY SAFE ONLINE

The Internet is a great for finding out new things and chatting with friends.  You have to know how to use it safely to get the best from it.

When you use the Internet you have to be as careful as when you are out in the real world.  Just as you would be polite to people in the street, you must be polite to the people you talk to online.

You should only talk to people that you know well in real life when you are on the Internet.

Your name, your address, your photos and information about where you are going or what school you go to is special information that you should only share with people you know and have met in real life.  You wouldn't let a complete stranger walk into your house and begin to put your photos and favourite items into their bag.

People you do not know online may tell lies so that you will think you can trust them.  They can use your special information to hurt you or put you in danger.

Watch the video below and read the rules about using the computer safely.  You can discuss any of this with your teacher or family.  Always tell a trusted adult if you are worried about anything you see online.   You can also contact Childline by phone, email or through a web message. There are trained counsellors available who can talk you through any worries in confidence.  Calls are free and confidential.
