Governance
Cedars Academy Trust is a single academy trust operating across two sites: Low Fell and High Heworth. One Board of Trustees oversees the whole academy.
Our trustees are committed to providing an education that responds to each pupil’s needs and ambitions. Their work supports pupils’ learning, physical and emotional wellbeing, independence and preparation for adult life.
How the Trust is governed
Our Trust has two levels of governance: members and trustees.
Members safeguard the Trust’s charitable purpose and hold the Board of Trustees to account for its governance. They exercise the powers set out in the Trust’s articles of association.
Trustees set the Trust’s strategic direction, oversee its educational and financial performance, and hold the co-headteachers to account. They are responsible for ensuring that resources are used effectively to support pupils across both sites.
The co-headteachers and leadership team are responsible for the day-to-day running of the academy.
Our Board of Trustees
The Board is chaired by Andrew Thompson.

Trustees bring a range of skills and experience to their work. They provide support and challenge to leaders, helping the academy improve its provision and maintain high expectations for every pupil.

Their responsibilities include:

setting the academy’s vision, values and strategic priorities

overseeing the quality of education and pupils’ progress

ensuring effective safeguarding arrangements

overseeing finances, resources and risk

listening to the views of pupils, families and staff.
The Board meets regularly throughout the academic year, supported by its committees.
Our committees
The Board delegates particular areas of oversight to two committees:
Resources, Audit and Risk considers the Trust’s resources, financial management, internal scrutiny and management of risk.
Curriculum and Standards considers the quality of education, curriculum provision and pupils’ achievement.
The committees report to the Board, which retains overall responsibility. Their responsibilities are set out in the committee terms of reference and the scheme of delegation.

We also publish relevant interests and attendance at Board and committee meetings so that families and the wider community can see how the Trust is governed.
