Learning at Low Fell

Our Low Fell site on Ivy Lane is for pupils from Reception to Year 13 with complex learning needs, including autism, severe learning difficulties and related communication and sensory needs.

All our pupils here are working before or within the earliest stages of the National Curriculum. Many are developing their own ways to communicate, and they learn best in a calm, predictable environment.

How pupils learn

Learning is sensory, therapeutic and play-based, planned around how our pupils learn, not just what they learn. Each pupil follows one of three developmental pathways, matched to their stage of development rather than their age. Communication, early reading and number run through the whole day: routines, real-life learning and Total Communication. Each pupil's learning is planned with their family, their therapists and our wider support team.

Our facilities

Our Therapy Centre brings together the sensory room, soft play area, immersive room and sensory integration and movement room.

​

Elsewhere at Low Fell, pupils have access to a hydrotherapy pool, a rebound therapy room and the Liz Neale sports hall. We also run Forest School sessions in our outdoor learning area. Poppy, our therapy dog, is part of the support available to pupils.
