Starting at Cedars

Once your child’s place at Cedars has been confirmed through the local authority, we will work with you to plan their start. We want you and your child to have time to get to know the people, routines and spaces at their site.

 

Planning the move

Your child’s teaching team will contact you and their current school, nursery or setting. Together, we will discuss what helps your child feel comfortable, how they communicate, any support they need and what a successful start would look like.

 

Transition is planned around the individual. It may include a meeting with your family, visits to Cedars, contact between staff at the two settings and photographs or other information your child can explore beforehand. We will explain the arrangements for your child and give you a contact if you have questions.

 

Welcome information

We will give you a welcome pack for your child’s site and stage of learning. It explains the school day, practical arrangements and who to contact.

Information we need from you

Before your child starts, we will tell you which registration, contact and medical information we need and how to return it securely. We will also explain how to apply for free school meals or home to school transport if these are relevant to your family.

Keeping in touch

Starting somewhere new can take time. Your child’s class team will stay in touch with you during the transition and review how they are settling in. Please tell us if a routine, communication approach or other support is working particularly well, or if something needs to change.
